A mask is placed over the nose of the patient and they just need to breathe normally. The effects of the gas can be felt in less than a minute, and usually brings on a warm, comforting sensation. Once the procedure is over, the mask is removed and the patient should feel normal within in a minute, able to go on with their day.<\/p>\n<h2>Oral Conscious Sedation<\/h2>\n<p>For patients who have a higher level of anxiety or are coming in for more invasive procedures, oral conscious sedation may be the best solution for them. Dr. Donnelly will prescribe medication and instruct the patient when to take a pill on the day of the procedure. By the time the procedure has begun, the medication should have taken effect. They will still be conscious while they are heavily sedated. The medication helps numb the sensations caused by the procedure and calms the mind. Due to the strength of oral sedation, it is advised that a trusted person or family member drive you to and from the office, as well as keep an eye on you for the rest of the day.
